CUSIP

A 9-character alphanumeric identifier for North American securities — the field on every 13D / 13G cover page.

Definition

CUSIP (Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures) is a 9-character identifier assigned to stocks, bonds, and other securities. The first 6 characters identify the issuer; the next 2 identify the specific issue; the 9th is a check digit.

Schedule 13D and 13G filings list the CUSIP of the security being disclosed on the cover page. CUSIP is the canonical join key between SEC filings and security price data.
